Student Welfare & Accommodation

Religious life, cafeteria services, sports, accommodation, medical services and student administration — your wellbeing comes first.

Religious Life

Tanzania is a secular state, and Mwanza University encourages religious practices. Students enjoy religious freedom, provided activities benefit the student body and promote constructive values without disrupting core university functions. The Dean of Students approves religious activities and designates locations; chapels and mosques are situated near campus.

Cafeteria Services

Multiple cafeterias on campus serve staff and students, featuring East African-inspired cuisine with locally and globally sourced ingredients. Canteens, restaurants and hotels are within walking distance.

Sports and Recreation

Comprehensive sports and wellness programmes foster healthy, active lifestyles. MzU organises inter-faculty sports championships across various disciplines and continuously improves sporting facilities and leisure programming.

Accommodation

The University has made accommodation arrangements with carefully vetted external lodging providers — privately owned hostels and residences in the institution’s immediate vicinity. Prospective residents may visit accommodations before reserving, and the Dean of Students’ Office supports all housing matters. Use the accommodation guide at accommodation.mwanzauniversity.ac.tz.

Medical and Hospital Services

Emergency and first-aid services are available on campus, and nearby health centres offer comprehensive healthcare. All students receive mandatory NHIF medical insurance registration upon admission, with cards distributed upon arrival. Private insurance holders should present coverage documentation to the Dean of Students.

Students Administration and Discipline

Student life is guided by the Students’ Bylaws, which aim to develop student responsibility, promote and protect human rights, harmonise diverse beliefs and cultural norms, safeguard institutional resources, promote gender equity, establish good governance and reinforce discipline.
